The Problem

People want to stay active and play sports, but finding others to play with is harder than it should be. Most rely on group chats, word-of-mouth, or inconsistent schedules, which makes it difficult to find games regularly.

There is no simple, centralized platform that allows users to quickly discover nearby games and join them without friction.

Real-world example of how sports coordination currently happens through fragmented group WhatsApp chats.

The Goal

The goal was to create a simple and accessible platform that allows users to find and join sports games quickly, while reducing the friction typically associated with organizing or joining recreational activities.

Research & Insights

Initial research was based on conversations with peers and personal experiences, including my co-founder’s move to a new city where he struggled to find people to play sports with.

Key insights:

  • People rely heavily on word-of-mouth to find games

  • Scheduling and coordination is often frustrating

  • Users prefer simple, fast interactions over complex systems

  • A “Tinder-like” experience for sports felt intuitive to many users

The Solution

Sportmeet is a mobile platform designed to simplify how users discover and join sports activities.

Core features include:

  • Swipe-based discovery of games

  • Location-based matching

  • User profiles with sports interests

  • Ability to join or create games

The focus was on making the experience quick, intuitive, and accessible for users of all skill levels.

Design Process

The design process started with rough ideas and evolved into structured wireframes and high-fidelity designs using Figma.

Key steps included:

  • Early concept exploration

  • Wireframing core user flows

  • Iterating on onboarding experience

  • Designing a clean and intuitive interface

  • Collaborating with developers to bring the product to life

User Testing

The app was tested with students at Toronto Metropolitan University to gather feedback on usability and overall experience.

Testing focused on:

  • Ease of onboarding

  • Navigation and discoverability

  • Clarity of core features

Feedback was used to refine the user experience and improve overall usability.

Demonstrated real user demand through live testing and adoption

Results

  • Successfully launched a functional mobile app

  • Reached 100+ active users within initial testing phase,
validated demand through real-world student adoption

  • Conducted real-world testing with students

  • Presented the product in an academic and entrepreneurial setting

Reflections

This project highlighted the importance of simplicity in user experience and the impact of reducing friction in social interactions.

As we continue to develop Sportmeet, we focus on improving user retention, enhancing community features, and scaling the platform to support a larger audience.
